 "La seule réponse à l'année Bach qui soit parvenue à captiver l'imagination a été le pélerinage des cantates de John Eliot Gardiner. Cependant, comme nous le savons bien, Universal n'a pas respecté son accord qui était d'enregistrer la totalité du pèlerinage, et au lieu de cela, a marqué l'événement avec seulement douze disques (trois rééditions, cinq nouveaux enregistrements réalisés avant le pèlerinage et seulement quatre en direct du pèlerinage lui-même). Bien que le précédent CD des cantates de la Pentecôte se détache du reste des enregistrements, en particulier par l'interprétation du magnifique « Wohl euch » de la BWV 34 exécutée par Bernarda Fink, ce disque, enregistré à Merano au mois d'août dernier, est sans aucun doute le point culminant des quatre disques enregistrés en direct. Ses interprétations sont toujours bonnes et il nous offre trois vigoureuses cantates, parmi lesquelles la BWV 105, qui est un chef d'oeuvre."

 Of all the responses to Bach Year, John Eliot Gardiner's cantata pilgrimage was the one that caught the imagination. Yet, as is well known, Universal reneged on an agreement to record the entire pilgrimage and instead marked the event with just twelve discs- three reissues, five new recordings made prior to the pilgrimage and only four live from the pilgrimage itself. If the earlier CD of Whitsun cantatas stands out among the new recordings, especially for Bernarda Fink's singing of the lovely "Wohl euch" from BWV 34, this disc, recorded in Merano last August, is certainly the pick of the live quartet. It features consistently good performances and three powerful cantatas, of which BWV 105 is a masterpiece.
