This is the
first release by Le Petite Trianon, an ensemble that specializes in Baroque
chamber music performed on period instruments. The group was started in 2012
by violinist Amandine Solano, cellist Cyril Poulet,
and traverso player Olivier Riehl. For this program they have added Xavier
Marquis, bassoon and Paolo Corsi, harpsichord. Their stated aim is to
research and perform forgotten works and composers. Boismortier fits this
bill fairly well. Although a great success in his lifetime, his music is
little known today. Le Petite Trianon makes a strong showing here. They play
extremely well together, with delightful balance in both style and sound and
beautiful unity of phrasing and line. Bassoonist Marquis really comes into
his own in the Opus 41 (in D) and Opus 37 (E minor) sonatas, showing off
impressive
technique
and remarkable intonation. This recording is definitely worth hearing. | |
