Analyste: Stephen Rose Texte intégral "C’est une anthologie très bien choisie des petites pièces vocales de Buxtehude – le type de musique qu’il interprétait très probablement pendant la Communion à Lübeck. Le programme varié inclut des débordements à l’italienne (Cantate domino), une pièce sur une basse obstinée (Herr wenn ich nur dich habe) et un de ses seuls arrangements d’un choral (Jesu meine Freude). Il y a aussi la méditation sur la mort, Ich habe Lust abzuscheiden, où le lyrisme mélodieux crée une douceur mélancolique. Les trois chanteurs sur ce disque forment un ensemble idéal ; les voix de Suzie LeBlanc et Emma Kirkby sont parfaitement assorties pour les duos de sopranos. Le son est clair et précis, donnant au moindre détail toute son importance."
Reviewer: Stephen Rose Original text "This is a well-chosen anthology of Buxtehude’s small-scale vocal pieces—the kind of music he probably performed during Communion at Lübeck. The varied programme includes Italianate outpourings (Cantate domino), a piece on an ostinato bass (Herr wenn ich nur dich habe) and one of his few settings of a chorale (Jesu meine Freude). There is also the meditation on death, Ich habe Lust abzuscheiden, where the lilting lyricism creates a mournful sweetness. The three singers on this disc make an ideal ensemble; the voices of Suzie LeBlanc and Emma Kirkby are well matched for the soprano duets. The sound is airy and focused, giving significance to every small detail."

Reviewer: Lindsay Kemp Excerpt : "The Purcell Quartet’s essential string sound has always been sweet, airy and lucid, and it is interesting to hear how that has been transferred here from the instrumental sphere to the vocal. To this end the choice of singers is important, and on this occasion they could hardly have picked more shrewdly: Emma Kirkby and Suzie LeBlanc make an excellent pairing, distinguishable from each other in both voice and approach, yet at the same time superbly matched in duet; and Peter Harvey has the friendliest of bass voices, his alert account of Mein Herz ist bereit, set against the thrillingly radiant background of three violins, being one of the disc’s highlights. An expert recording in an amenable acoustic completes a release of many refined pleasures."
