The virtuosos are taking over here. Luka Sulic has rearranged the scoring of this famous set of violin concertos to make them cello concertos. He plays the result with enthusiasm and total accuracy, as do the Santa Cecilia players. This is dedicated “To my lovely daughter Hana who was born during the recording of this album.” That is the sum total of the information we are given here—no liner notes, no more music to fill out the program. He is Croatian-Slovenian and 32 years old. If you can stand the re-scoring and the shortness of this program, it promises more to come. Maybe he’ll actually learn some real cello music for us! Till then, have fun, Luka. I did.
