    Henri-Jacques de Croes
(1705-86—pronounced Crews) was a Belgian violinist and composer—technically
from the Austrian Netherlands—who played with and led the orchestras of the
Thurn and Taxis Royal Family in Frankfurt-on-the-Main and Charles of
Lorraine in Brussels. His 6 Trio Sonatas, Op. 5 were published in Paris
between 1735 and 46; some of them come from his Op. 1. They are written in a
hybrid style that was then up-to the-minute, combining the Italian with
    Empfindsam.
    Superb balance serves inspired
and energetic playing with exquisite ensemble and intonation. The
harpsichord is placed in the background where it supports the dialog of the
instruments. The ensemble consists of two French and two Spanish musicians.
It was founded at the Belgian Conservatory in Brussels and consists of
traverso player Carlota Garcia, violinist Izana Soria, cellist Edouard
Catalan, and harpsichordist Ganael Schneider. Winning the 2017 York Early
Music Young Artists Competition has allowed them to make this recording. A high-quality 25-page booklet accompanies the program and sits in a pocket inside the cover.
