This recent version of Schütz's funeral music (Fanfare 11:5) was followed soon after by one from John Eliot Gardiner. Both are fine, but six additional works by the composer continue the funeral aspect on this disc, while Gardiner's added selections are less of a piece. The CD is slipped into a pocket in a book slightly larger than a jewel box, and the notes, texts, and translations are printed in a legible fashion. On balance this is the choice version of the work, and the new packaging makes it even more attractive. If the premium price puts you off, the jewel box is still available. Very fine either way.
